The High Performance Software Foundation (HPSF), part of the nonprofit Linux Foundation and a neutral home for high performance software, is expanding its global reach by welcoming the RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) as a General Member.

R-CCS is a research center within RIKEN, which is Japan’s largest institution for basic and applied scientific research. The center is home to the supercomputer Fugaku and is currently led by Director Satoshi Matsuoka and Deputy Director Kengo Nakajima.

“R-CCS joined HPSF as users of Spack and Kokkos,” said Yuichi Otsuka, Technical Scientist at R-CCS. Otsuka presented at the inaugural conference and has been maintaining open source software on the supercomputer Fugaku since 2022. “We’re excited to work with others in the community who share a growth mindset and see value in using a common software stack that works across HPC and cloud systems.”

As a General Member of HPSF, R-CCS will:

  • Join the HPSF Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
  • Help shape the direction of HPSF projects and priorities
  • Support alignment with broader HPC industry needs
  • Contribute to building a strong foundation for portable, high performance software

“HPSF’s mission is to support open source software that builds trust, longevity, and sustainability,” said Todd Gamblin, HPSF Governing Board Chair. “Our goal is to foster collaboration and innovation across the HPC space. A thriving HPSF ecosystem encourages engagement from industry, which we expect will drive growth in contributors and users.”
